Lorelei receives its first GRAMMY® Award nomination for Christopher Cerrone's Beaufort Scales!
Dear friends,
I am thrilled and beyond proud to share that Lorelei Ensemble's recording of Christopher Cerrone's Beaufort Scales was nominated for a GRAMMY® in the category of Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance! This recognition is a testament to everyone involved in bringing the recording to life, from the artists who performed on the album - singers Elizabeth Bates, Kathryn Radakovich, Sonja Tengblad, Corrine Byrne, Kate Maroney, Elisa Sutherland, Clara Osowski, and Emily Marvosh, led as always by Beth Willer - to audio engineer Mike Tierney, to executive producer Jim Fox at Cold Blue Music, to Chris and his incredible new work.
This recognition is also a testament to the power of women's voices in sharing a message that is both timeless and timely. Thank you for being part of the community of people who believe in this mission as much as we do.

With great excitement,

About Cerrone's Beaufort Scales
Cerrone's piece, premiered and toured on Lorelei's LOOK UP program, carries with it a cautionary tale for our era of accelerating climate change. The primary text for this album is drawn from the Beaufort Wind Force Scale (a measure of wind speed, originally as it related to observed sea conditions) created by Francis Beaufort in 1805. Interspersed among the 13 sung movements are narrated interludes featuring four texts taken from the writings of Herman Melville, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Anne Carson, and the King James Bible. Each of these comments on the state of weather at a particular point in time, serving as a pause and a moment to reflect upon the surrounding movements.
